Magnolia Mill

Piece #3 of the Park County series titled "Magnolia Mill."  My Park County Series features local historic sites with an emphasis on our mining culture and pioneer roots.
This listing is for one, 12x12 inch made to order glass on clear acrylic piece with a reclaimed wood box frame (hardware included). For this piece, I have incorporated actual river rocks and reclaimed glass that I've collected from the mill site itself!  The reclaimed wood frame comes in a medium brown/gray tone, but can be stained another color per request.  All pieces are designed specifically to hang in a window or on the wall for maximum versatility.

The Magnolia Mine and Mill was constructed in the 1880s. This mine was supported in large part by the town of Montgomery, the current location of the Montgomery Reservoir. The town of Montgomery was rather prosperous in the late 1800s, at one point housing a population of 1,000 people. The town however, during a bust period and deemed no longer viable, was sold to the city of Colorado Springs and flooded during the construction of the Montgomery Dam. The Dam was constructed to capture abundant snowmelt, and pipe freshwater to the city and newly under construction Peterson US Airforce Base. The Mine and Mill has exchanged hands multiple times over the years. The original structure eventually was raised after a devastating fire in 1932. The current mill was rebuilt the following year, but ultimately, all mining operations slowed and eventually ended due to World War II shortages. Still standing, the rebuilt Mill has seen steady deterioration and vandalism, and has been determined dangerous and is closed to the public. Local community efforts have been made regularly to clean up the site and to post signs to discourage vandalism. This Mill is one of the few remaining structures that represent the last phase of the mining boom in Park County, the 1930s through the 40s.
